Rugbymag.com -Arkansas State shut out the University of Oklahoma 72-0 Saturday in Norman, Okla.
ASU head coach Matt Huckaby said he wanted to run his best side out for the full 80, in part because Oklahoma has a full B side and in part because he wanted to see the various team units put in a full match.
"It was good, they played a pretty good team game," said Huckaby.
CLint Whittler was knocked out of the game after a 50-meter run, and the team stepped up to fill in for him.
"They had to respond to that and they did," Huckaby said.
Wing Caleb Gragg, an ASU hometown boy from Jonesboro, Ark., scored two tries. Nardus Wessels led well as captain, while Gerald McInerny took his opportunity to start at lock with both hands and we highly influential.
The B side game was closer 34-28 in ASU's favor. Huckaby said he was pleased to tell his B-siders that they had to play a full 80.
"It was good for them," he said. "The rugby suffered a little bit late but they're not going to be able to improve if they don't do it."
