Weather, weather, weather….
Once again I am looking outside and see huge snowflakes, quite beautiful actually. Then I remember that I have to plan a practice with a team who loves to play exciting and expansive rugby. Luckily, Dr. Howard the university’s Vice Chancellor, Provost, has made available resources that allow us to practice indoors. While basketball courts are not ideal for rugby, they are better than no practice at all.
I wanted to take this chance to inform parents and supporters alike about the many progressive changes that are currently taking place for the Rugby Program.
· Management of the Rugby Program has been worked into my job duties, allowing me crucial time to plan, implement, travel and otherwise for the good of the program
· We have access to indoor courts which are utilized exclusively for the rugby team at set times
· We have access to a free weight room; access is allowed only to rugby players at the set times
· This week we are adding certified athletic trainers to have ice, tape, wraps, etc… at practices and games
· For our injured players we have access to the top physical therapist in town and have the full support of the same orthopedic doctors the football team uses
· Dr. Braden is still lending his time and expertise as our Rugby Doctor…he wears many different hats under this title
· Dr. Howard is soliciting construction material donations for the rugby field house that will begin asap
· After construction materials are realized we will need to raise money for the labor to actual build the complex
For you parents, I cannot brag on these young men enough. For my first year coaching, I couldn’t have had a better group to start with.
So far the game is on with Oklahoma University this weekend, I will try to post on coaches corner asap after the match.
Warmest Regards,
Matt Huckaby
